A.  How to craft a “machine readable” resume?

With modern technology, machines (namely computers) read resumes and do the first round of screening.  To make sure your resume is relevant according to a machine’s eyes, make sure that you use the key words from the job description that you are interested in applying for.

B.   To apply for Forest Service jobs, the first step is to create a resume in USAJOBS.

B.  Set search criteria

To keep an eye on the job that you want in certain geographic area, there are search criteria you can set in USAJOBS. The system can send emails to you when a job in your desirable location shows up. Or when a job opens up that matches your criteria, the system will send you an email. To learn more, look under “Advanced Search.”
