Free Online Leadership Courses Offered by Universities

Are limited time and funds hampering your training opportunities?  Is AgLearn leaving you feeling less than satisfied?  Then it’s time you tried massive, open, online courses (MOOCs) offered by major universities through sites like Coursera (www.coursera.org)!

While a wide range of subjects are offered, here is a sampling of leadership-related courses offered through Coursera:

  • Inspiring Leadership through Emotional Intelligence (Case Western Reserve University) – course offerings to begin November 3, 2014; February 2, 2015; and May 4, 2015
  • Better Leader, Richer Life (U. Penn) – currently in progress
  • Power Onboarding (Northwestern Univ.) – currently in progress

A series of 10-15 minute videos serve as the foundation of these courses and supplemented with class assignments, online discussion forums, and recommended reading. Your level of participation can range from watching one short video module to fully participating in all of the assignments and getting verification of course completion.  You can even download an app. and participate via your smartphone.

Let’s discuss!  If APAEA members are interested in taking the next “Inspiring Leadership through Emotional Intelligence” Coursera course beginning in November and having APAEA organize a few conference calls to discuss reactions to the course material and share your perspectives on leadership, let us know (apaea@fs.fed.us)!
